Christmas Crackers

It's fair to say tenthree are a festive bunch. We put our tree up yesterday, Michael Buble is playing on repeat in reception and not 5 minutes passes without hearing, "I'm going to Pret. Who wants a Crimble Crumble".
So when AMV approached us in April to work on their Sainsbury's Christmas ad we thought Christmas had…well…er…come early. Then Billy and the amazing team from AMV of Colin, Phil and Suzy, set to work turning hours and hours of home video footage into an ad that goes from the sublime to the ridiculous to the downright heartwarming we loved every second of it.
After all the hard work the response to the ad has be amazing and we got an early Christmas present today as it got voted number one in Campaign reader's top 10 Christmas ads as well as featuring in this month's Beak Street Bugle High Five.

Not to be out done Becs' Aldi Chocolate Reindeer spot was 4th. A Christmas double whammy. Well done guys.

Stan's story continues...

When Cabell Hopkins wanted to make a film about his friend Stan's life and his time as World sidecar champion I doubt world stardom was the end goal. After being picked up at Sheffield Doc Fest and an exclusive feature in the NY Times you would think Stan could not go any higher...
Tomorrow night at 7PM Stan Dibben will be interviewed on the One Show by non other than Richard 'The Hamster' Hammond. They will show excerpts from the film and chat about Stan's life in the daredevil world of 1950's sidecar racing.

While Kev was cutting the film with Cabell everyone here fell in love with Stan and if we could put his name forward for Sports personality of The Year we would.

A true gent, a great inspiration and a real sporting hero. Stan Dibben.

Aldi - Christmas & Chocolate Reindeer

More Christmas treats from tenthree and it's an Aldi Christmas double whammy. First up there is a mash up of all the great Aldi ads we've done over the last couple of years as well as a couple of new weird and wonderful characters like our very worn out Santa.

Then how many times have we heard our grandparents say, "In my day all we got was a satsuma and some nuts" well try tell that to this cheeky chappy as he steals his sister's chocolate reindeer. Ninja style. Once again brilliantly directed by MJ Delaney at Moxie and edited by Becs. And don't just take our word for it, it's Campaign's pick of the week.

Sainsbury's - Christmas In A Day

Christmas started a long time ago here at tenthree when Billy and the team received the Christmas In A Day rushes. This came in the form of an extensive library of home videos sent in by families all over Britain documenting their 2012 Christmas. By this time the feature length film was already wrapped up (oops) but it was our task to go through all the clips that had been sent in and pick out the moments that best depicted the story of Christmas and make it work in a series of ads. It was a unique experience to get an insight into lives of families and individuals at this festive, and for many, treasured time of the year. We hope it gets you in the mood!.....for Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

tenthree have flags

We're very lucky and proud to say we've had some bespoke tenthree flags designed for us by the living legend that is Ross Stirling and his amazing team at Studio Juice. Our inspiration came from the flags he made for Mumford and Sons on their globe trotting Gentleman of the Road tour. We've got three designs in total. There is also talk of turning them into duvet covers and capes.

We couldn't be happier. Thanks Ross.

Jon Hopkins - Breathe This Air

We've all been there; you're taking a quick naked dip in a freezing lake in the woods, and then an unexpected encounter with a man hunting deer interrupts the serenity!

Anthony Dickinson's beautifully shot promo features two people both pursuing what they believe to be very solitary activities, yet for a second their worlds intersect. Quick word of warning, the video contains a small amount of nudity, so if you are offended by that sort of thing or someone is around you, turn your screen slightly!

Laura Marling - Devil's Resting Place

Since we cut When Brave Bird Saved, the short film to accompany Laura Marling's new album, it's fair to say we've been a little bit obsessed with her. Hyundai - It's Your Somewhere Else

When Mark told us he was going to travel 10,000 miles to Sydney for a 5 day edit we thought the guy was crazy and when he returned with no edit saying, "it's a massive post job wait until you see the final version" it sounded like he just wanted a jolly back to this motherland.

But a couple of weeks later the joke was on us when the hyundai spot he cut was picked as a shots contender. Great work Mark it was worth the jet lag and the wait for the guys at Finn Design to do a fantastic job on the massive heads.

Virgin Media - The Manager

Will Rooney leave Man U? Does Moyes really think Baines and Fellini are only worth £28m? Suarez? And what about Wenger swooping in for Cayabe the morning of the Toon's first match? Well hold the back page because the biggest/tallest player in world football has made a big money move and we can reveal it here first. That's right goalscorer, body popper, batting well above his averager, tall person Peter Crouch fallen foul of some dodgy advice from his agent and is starting this season at would can only be described as a pub team.

Expertly directed by James Griffiths and cut by Quin with Kev also cutting the online films it was a really team performance.

Sainsbury's - Top Bombing

Don't you just hate that feeling; it's the first day back at school after the summer holidays, your mum has brought all your new uniform three sizes too big and you've put a massive hole in the knee of your trousers playing football during big break and Fawaz Fram has ripped your jumper playing "it" on the way the school bus. Mum is going to kill you!!!
But it seems kids these days don't have to worry about any of this because Sainsbury's have made indestructible school clothes. Two weekends ago Mumford and Sons took their famous Stopover festival to sleepy Lewes and boy did they get a wake up cal. Coral - Bumble on...

Whether it's a fiver on the grand national or a second mortgage on Cardiff City staying up, everyone loves a bet and after these 13 spots for Coral it's safe to say everyone loves Bumble (or David Lloyd to his bank manager!). Director Tareq at Nice Shirt Films captures Bumble's natural charm and gift of storytelling, as we catch up with the cricket legend in the pub, in his beloved garden, at Old Trafford (cricket ground you philistines!) and the golf course.

Tareq - "He was fantastic, a total professional, very warm and charming too. There was no real script, it was more me working off him from the starting point of a series of questions. I spent a lot of time stifling my laughter. The crew lost it a couple of times. We went off on few tangents that were too weird/silly for broadcast and some that where far to rude.

Last word goes to Bumble on the Ashes, "5-0 England. If it was 6 it would be 6-0". Probably worth a flutter.

McCoys - Lost

Nobody likes to admit they're lost....especially if they're male because it goes against the unwritten rules of manliness. So when the guy in this spot from dream team collabo Mark Burnett and Jim Hosking ludicrously suggests ASKING someone, his part in the road trip comes to a comedic end.

Longleat - Call Of The Wild

We all remember that first trip to the safari park, warm jam sandwiches, hot cartons of umbungo ("they drink it in the Congo") and Dad furiously trying to persuade a monkey not to have sex with the windscreen wipers. Good times.  Well, I think Johnny Maginn and Kev have different memories, all together much darker, moodier memories of that time. This piece for Longleat Safari Park, mixes some stunning shots of the English countryside with a soundtrack you will not be expecting. Be careful out there.

Welcome to tenthree - Mark Burnett

G’Day mate, strewth who’s that? That my antipodean friend, is Mark Burnett and we are very proud to say he is joining us at tenthree.

After a successful career in his native Sydney Mark came to London to join Speade for four fabulous years and has already amassed a varied and high quality body of work with directors like Jim Hosking, thirtytwo, Finn McGough, Matt Dilmore and Hamish Rothwell. In 2012 he completed the critically acclaimed doc Shut up and Play the Hits with thirtytwo, which premiered at Sundance.

tenthree's hard graft over the last three years has seen us expand our roster of talented editors and double the size of our digs at Newburgh Street. At heart we're still exactly the same - no job too big or too small and no cake too tough to bake. Mark's laid back easy going nature made him the perfect "dood" for tenthree and we feel bloody lucky to have him.

Strongbow - Earn It

This month sees the release of one of the most eagerly awaited collaborations since Adam and Eve back on that fruitful day in the garden of Eden. No I'm not talking about Batman and Robin, that's been done. Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole? I hear you asking yourself....

No and no. This is an extra special collaboration that was born right here at tenthree and that is...Dom and Ed! In a series of 3 films to promote Strongbow's 'Earn It' campaign, Director Si Allen explores the metaphorical to convey those feelings of nerves, anticipation and fear when entering into a challenge. Edited by Dom, Strongbow were in need of a right arm medium pace bowler to be the star of the '12th Man' film so Ed stepped up to the plate. See for yourself as we showcase the first 2 of 3 films. Special mention for Sam Ashwell at 750mph who did the sound design.

Why Do We Run?

Why do we run?...If I could understand Spanish, I might be able to tell you the answer. That's not because all the answers to life are written down in Spanish, but because in this latest spot for Nike by Director Joan Cobos, he gives us a metaphorical insight as to why? Why do we run? At least I think he does but it's in Spanish?.... and like I said, I don't speak Spanish.

Regardless of why we run, this is a beautifully crafted little film, which features David Bustos, the best young spanish athlete of 2012 and former Team Nike runner. Cut by Quin

Well Done Chris!

Under normal circumstances, if a grown man spends a week of his life playing with teddy bears night and day, you'd get a little worried about him, maybe de-friend him? Especially when he's making them act out a series of sick, gruesome murders involving guns, saws and grenades. However, this is just how life goes for Director and great friend of tenthree, Chris Ullens. He did all of the above to create this amazing stop-frame animation music video for Amin Tobin's Two Fingers. Edited by Jimmy, It's a masterpiece and we'd expect nothing less from Chris. So we were even more chuffed to hear that he'd won Best Animation and the Los Angeles Music Video Festival. Double thumbs up!

The Answer To Everything

It's not too often we get serious at tenthree but last year when Rupert Jones approached us to get on board with a project for Charity Streetwise Opera it was an offer we couldn't refuse. Streetwise Opera runs weekly music programmes for homeless people culminating in a large-scale annual show.

That culmination came last week at the BFI with 'The Answer to Everything', which is perhaps uniquely, part opera, part film and part sales-conference in which the film Rupert created was part of an interactive performance featuring 50 Streetwise performers and professional performers. The film received 5* reviews in The Time and The Guardian.

Below is the trailer for the film, which was cut by Quin, Kev and Becs.

Go Compare & Ben Wheatley

Over the weekend you may have seen the latest GoCompare ad in which Gio Compario - the worlds most annoying opera singer - doesn't sing! Instead, the brand's mascot is seen pitching new advertising ideas to his GoCompare colleagues with a somewhat less than enthusiastic reception. This is the first in a series of new ad's from the price comparison website in which Gio takes on a more comic role.

The agency behind the campaign (Dare) have enlisted the expertise of multi-award winning Director Ben Wheatley to direct the spots and we were delighted to have him at tenthree for the duration. Ben is considered by many critics to be one of Britain's most significant directors. After directing comedy series Modern Toss for channel 4, he wrote, produced and directed his first feature film, Down Terrace (2009). He shot the film in 8 days and it went on to win the Jury Prize at the Raindance Film Festival. More recently, he's had huge success with horror feature Kill List (2011) and Sightseers (2012), a dark comedy about a couple on a caravan trip, which have both earned him numerous awards.

Cut by Quin, here's 'Double Dog'. In 2 days it's already got over 250,000 views on YouTube.

Kronenbourg - Farmers Of Alsace

OK, so we're catching up a bit on posting this but it's never too late to pay homage to The King. A legend in his field and always pleasure to watch him at work...no we're not talking about Cantona, we're talking about Filip Malasek.

In the last 6 months we've had the pleasure of welcoming Filip into tenthree Towers on jobs for Kronenbourg and Acer. As an Editor, Filip has worked on many award-winning commercial spots, winning in Cannes, at D&AD, British Arrows and many others. Working consistently over the years with some of the industries top Directors on spots for Honda, Adidas, Stella Artios, Coca Cola and Magners. Dr Martens - Ash

This was one of our favourite jobs at tenthree last year and we've had to wait over 6 months to see the finished film. Shot over a day in Manchester, the film follows British model Ash Stymest and his crew - featuring models Todd Taylor and Adwoa Aboah - in true gritty Dr Martens style. Stymest narrates the film, sharing his thoughts on love, life and growing up. It's a beautiful, raw piece of film-making and it wouldn't surprise us if Ash makes it as an actor, as the film will show you, he's a natural in front of camera.

The only problem is it's never quite so easy to put but together and never actually works again and there goes 6months pocket money. Cricket Tea

Howszzzaaaaaaaaaaat!...for a cup of Tea?

In this idyllic town in the Yorkshire countryside, a few retirees are going about their usual day milling around on the village green, playing cricket. All of a sudden a Yorkshire Tea van arrives and it kicks right off! This is a true story and you can see it all for yourself in Yorkshire Tea's latest ad from Director and friend of tenthree, Sam Washington.

The unsuspecting villagers are not only treated to a fine cup of tea, there's a marching band, a parade, an air show, multiple entertainers AND a giant inflatable teapot all in celebration of their announcement at being the official supplier of tea to the England Cricket team. We love it, as we do their tea.

Lions Tour 2013 - Jim Telfer Parody

It's nearly time for the British Isles finest Rugby players to put aside their Six Nations differences and join forces as the British and Irish Lions. Possibly the most memorable moment from the Lions 100 year plus history is not the Jeremy Guscott drop goal, the "999 call" or the spear tackle on Brian O'Driscoll but a speech by Jim Telfer. In this video for Tourism Australia, Ben Quinn and Billy painstaking recreate Telfer's legendary 1997 speech.

The video, posted on YouTube shows Jim Telfer rallying UK fans to travel down under to support their team on the British & Irish Lions Tour in June, has racked up more than 50,000 views in a week and been shared on social media by ex England captain Will Carling and former rugby union stars Brian Moore and Will Greenwood.

Weight Watchers

There's no hiding the fact that most of us will enjoy the gastronomic delights that Xmas has to offer and binge eat over the festive period. If you don't, you're boring....there I said it. We then spend the whole of January trying to shed those extra handles of love by dieting and abstaining from alcohol, then congratulating ourselves for doing so well. Its boring behaviour and frankly it's unnecessary. Maintain a healthy diet all year round and you can afford to treat yourself once in a while! But don't take it from me, listen to Gregg Wallace and Penny Haslam, they're the real heroes!

In the latest series of spots for Weight Watchers, shot by Fred & Nick, Gregg and Penny showcase their new slender figures, which they attribute to a balanced and controlled diet. Their new plans even allow them a chocolate pud once in a while and we all know how much Gregg likes a pud!

Hector Riva

Not your typical Xmas ads from the National Lottery here but we weren't complaining as we had the chance to welcome in award winning Director Bart Timmer at the beginning of December. Bart, represented by Outsider in the UK, has been responsible for bringing the aspirational character Hector Riva to our screens. Regularly seen flaunting his glamourous lifestyle all over the world, Hector is seen in these 2 spots - cut by Billy - partying on a private jet with a harem of beautiful women and celebrating Christmas on a tropical island.
